The UPDF is responsible for defending Uganda's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Established after the Ugandan bush war, it has grown from its guerrilla origins into a professional and modern force.

The force originated from the National Resistance Army (NRA), a rebel group led by President Yoweri Museveni.

It is divided into two main branches: the land forces and the air force.
