Gen. Kainerugaba, who is the chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda and senior presidential Advisor on Special Operations previously commanded, among others, the Special Forces Command (SFC) and Land Forces.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the new CDF
President Yoweri Museveni appointed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), replacing Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi who is now a minister of state for trade in the Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives.

In the latest changes in UPDF announced by Defence Spokesperson Brig. Felix Kulayigye, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu has been appointed a Senior Presidential Advisor, as his position of deputy CDF is taken over by Lt. Gen. Samuel Okiding.
Maj. Gen. Leopold Eric Kyanda, who has been the Joint Chief of Staff, has been appointed Defence attaché and replaced by Maj. Gen. Jackson Bakasumba.
Brig. Gen. David Mugisha, who commands SFC, has been promoted to Major General while Col. Asaph Nyakyikuru is now a Brigadier General
President Museveni also made changes in his cabinet, introducing several new faces and firing others.
In the reshuffle announced on Thursday evening, Museveni named Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi as the new Minister of State for Trade Industry and Cooperatives, preplacing Harriet Ntabazi.
Mbadi has been serving as the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the UPDF.
In other changes, Museveni named events promoters Balaam Barugahara the State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs replacing Hon Sarah Mateke.
Other new faces include Lillian Aber, who is coming in as the State Minister for Relief Disaster Preparedness and refugees.
Both Aber and Balaam serve as Regional Vice Presidents of Gen. Kainerugaba-led Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
The President also named youth MP Phiona Nyamutoro as the new state minister for Energy.
