The songstress, who is popular for her hit single Overdose, has also released other jams like Netwalira, My Type, Your Body and You Single?
In interviews, Laika has said she launched her music career while doing covers that she would post on Instagram. Some of the covers she did were for songs by American singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill and American singer Alaine.
The songstress, whose birth name is Laika Umuhoza, said in an interview with NTV Uganda about two years ago that she had always wanted to be a musician since childhood.
In that interview, she said locally she's inspired by Lilian Mbabazi. "I think she is a great vocalist," she said.
She also said that she also loves A Pass Bagonza and Juliana Kanyomozi.
Internationally, Laika, who is a singer and songwriter – draws inspiration from Lauryn Hill herself, Alicia Keys and Beyonce.
In a 2022 interview with Galaxy F.M., she said that she is a Ugandan of Rwandan descent. She was born in Kanungu district in the Western region of Uganda but grew up in Munyonyo, Kampala.
She holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting and she completed her university education in the U.S. She graduated in 2019 and decided to become a singer.
Her popular song, Overdose, was produced by Nessim, real name Nessim Mukuza.
