Uganda’s Natasha Nyonyozi has been crowned the Beauty With a Purpose (BWAP) winner for Africa at the 2024 Miss World pageant, marking a historic back-to-back victory for Uganda in this category. 

Nyonyozi’s impressive achievement follows the success of last year’s Miss World Uganda, Hannah Karema, who won the same title at the 71st Miss World Festival.

Nyonyozi’s winning project, The Nyonyozi Initiative, is a personal and powerful advocacy for children with autism.

Inspired by her own experiences with her autistic brother, Natasha is leading the charge to raise awareness and promote social inclusion for neurodivergent children in Uganda.

Through her initiative, she has tirelessly worked to reshape awareness, provide resources, and improve access to education and services for children with autism, making her a significant figure in Uganda’s autism advocacy community.

Her focus on breaking down the barriers of social exclusion has brought attention to the importance of supporting neurodivergent individuals, highlighting the importance of acceptance and understanding in society.

Sierra Leone’s Lachaeveh Davies Makes History

Alongside Nyonyozi, Sierra Leone’s Lachaeveh Davies also made history by being the first representative from her country to become a finalist in the Beauty With a Purpose category. 

Her mission, One Meal, One Life, One Future, is deeply personal, driven by her own childhood experiences of hunger. As a young girl, Davies often went to school on an empty stomach, making it difficult to focus.

Today, she works tirelessly to combat hunger, ensuring that no child in Sierra Leone experiences the same hardship. Her compassion and dedication to ending hunger has turned her story of struggle into a powerful movement for change.

Beauty With a Purpose: Miss World’s Core Message

The BWAP Dinner Gala, held in Hyderabad, India, brought together finalists from around the world, showcasing 108 amazing projects aimed at social change.

Nyonyozi and Davies were among the top two from Africa, earning a fast-track to the Top 10 of their region in the Miss World competition.

Other notable winners included Puerto Rico’s Valeeria Perez, Wales’ Millie Mae Adams, and Indonesia’s Monica Kezia.

Julia Morley CBE, Chairman of the Miss World Organisation, praised the finalists, saying, “I’m so proud of every young woman here—not just for what they do, but for who they are.”

As the pageant continues in Hyderabad, Nyonyozi’s advocacy for autism awareness and social inclusion continues to make waves globally, marking Uganda’s significant impact on the international stage.
