Witch doctor's allegations against Speaker Kadaga are laughable and comical - Parliament
Parliament has responded to reports that a traditional healer is suing Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for breach of contract after allegedly aiding her catapult her political career in 1990.
The traditional healer identified as Damian Akuze claims in a lawsuit that he invoked his spirits to help Kadaga the leader she is in the country -- but wasn't paid for the service.
Akuze wants the court to compel Kadaga to pay UGX200m in damages.
Parliament has responded to the allegations saying "all this is a figment of the mind".
"The claim that she didn't have money to pay for the alleged service is laughable."
In a statement released on Friday, Parliament details Speaker Kadaga's political achievements before 1990, including holding becoming an MP in 1989.
"Akuze's claim that he catapulted her to the post of Minister within a flash should be treated with the contempt it deserves."
The statement says Kadaga was elected Speaker of Parliament in May 2011 because of hard work but no witchcraft.
"The implications of Akuze's claim is that he bewitched the entire Parliament, the Presidency and the whole country to elect Ms Kadaga as Speaker.
"We hope and pray that Akuze's comical and fraudulent allegations will be dismissed by the court."
In 2016, Kadaga visited a shrine to thank her ancestors after taking an oath in Parliament, a move that caused a lot of controversy in the country.
