UCE results: Nsambya Hillside emerges top in science subjects
Nsambya Hillside Western Campus, with its 30 candidates for the 2023 UCE exams, saw all its students achieving first grades, including 19 boys and 11 girls. Nuwagaba Derrick was the top student from the school, earning 11 points.
The institution, located in western Uganda, was notably the leading school in Mbarara for its performance in mathematics and biology, surpassing other prestigious schools such as Seeta High School, Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo, Namilyango College, among others.
In mathematics, Nsambya Hillside Western Campus outperformed other schools including Rubongi Army Secondary School Annex, Mt. St. Mary's Namagunga, Lowell Girls School Nsimbe, and Bukedea Comprehensive School, making it the foremost school in the subject nationally.
The school showcased an exceptional performance, with nine students achieving distinction one in several subjects.
Reflecting on past achievements, Nsambya Hillside has consistently shown excellent results, maintaining its reputation for excellence within Mbarara and nationally, outpacing 42 other well-regarded schools in previous assessments.
Namara Chloe, the director of Nsambya Hillside, expressed her enthusiasm about the school's performance, crediting it to the dedication of skilled teachers, a well-resourced library, and a commitment to high-quality education.
She emphasized the school's holistic approach to education, focusing on academic excellence, practical skills, and moral guidance through counseling services. This comprehensive educational strategy, she noted, is designed to equip students for success both in their examinations and in the challenges that lie beyond the school environment.
Data from the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) shows that out of the 349,459 candidates who registered for the 2023 UCE Examination, a slight decrease from 364,467 in 2022, male students achieved higher with 20.1% scoring first grades compared to 15.8% of female students.
