Last week, UBOS launched a recruitment drive, aiming to employ 114,460 enumerators and 18,483 supervisors for the census. The roles of the enumerators are set to be multifaceted, involving preliminary census groundwork such as mapping village-based census areas and conducting community mobilization through door-to-door visits.

"Enumerators will play a vital role in collecting comprehensive data by engaging with every household, institution, and community in their designated areas from the 9th to the 19th of May 2024," said a UBOS spokesperson.

Qualifications for Enumerator Positions

To be eligible for the enumerator roles, applicants must be Ugandan citizens between 18 and 50 years of age, have an “A” level certificate or its equivalent, and possess a credit in English and Mathematics at “O” level.

Moreover, applicants must be recommended by their respective LC 1 local authorities, demonstrate good conduct and mental soundness, be fluent in the local languages of their enumeration areas, and have basic computer application knowledge.

Additionally, having a valid National Identity Card issued by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is a requirement.

Chris Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, emphasized the importance of enumerators having the necessary technological means.

"It's essential that all enumerators possess smartphones registered in their names, which will be utilized for the payment process and serve as a contingency measure should there be any issues with the tablets provided for the census."

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the UBOS website for further details on the job roles and application process. As UBOS gears up for this extensive exercise, it stands resolute in its mission to provide accurate and reliable statistical information to the nation.
