Museveni, Uganda's president since 1986, wrote on Sunday claiming that the Mityana Municipality MP escaped from police custody and is a wanted man.

"The police are looking for him," he wrote.

Zaake's photos showing a swollen face and wounded hands went viral on the internet and caused an outrage and raising torture and human rights violation concerns.

He was reportedly 'dumped' at Rubaga Hospital by a military vehicle after his health deteriorated. He was later put on the life support machine.

His condition is slowly stabilizing, according to former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye.
