Uganda Airlines, in a message sure to send many scrambling for their Covid-19 jabs, confirmed that entry into Kenya has been restricted to only those who have been fully vaccinated and can prove it with a Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

The vaccination certificate is fast becoming an open sesame to many a public place with Uganda having announced that accessing public spaces will be predicated on having the said certificate.

President Museveni is expected to expound on this and other measures when he delivers his Covid-19 address and new year’s message tomorrow, amidst conflicting media reports that he will either fully reopen the economy or delay its reopening for a few weeks.

The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is piling on case upon case of infections as the daily infection rate has spiked to over 500 persons.

The Ministry of Health says 1,809 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 with four more virus-related deaths.

Infections have surged to 139,079 cases since March last year when the outbreak was confirmed in Uganda.

The new cases and deaths arise out of the 8,313 tests conducted on December 28, according to the government.

The Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, last week said that only 3.4 million Ugandans have been fully vaccinated, translating to 15% of the targeted 22 million to be fully vaccinated against Covid-29 when the economy opens.

9.1 million Ugandans have received their first jab, which is representative of 44% of all Ugandans to be vaccinated.
