Last month, Miss Uganda judges were criticised on social media after a viral video showing one of the contestants being bullied because of her accent.
The incident happened when the judges asked one of the contestants about her university. "Where is "Makerele"? You mean Makerere University?" Which "Makerele" do you mean?," a Miss Uganda judge asked.
Officials from Miss Uganda Foundation were hosted on The Chat Room show hosted by Karitas Karisimbi on NBS Television.
Beauty with a purpose
In a televised interview, Miss Uganda Foundation CEO Brenda Nanyonjo revealed that the pageant "isn't all about the glam".
She maintained that the "girls actually undergo serious training in various aspects of life like etiquette, self-branding, business and more".
Adding: "Basically it's all about beauty with a purpose".
Representing Uganda globally
Miss Uganda judges were strict on the contestants because one of them will luckily represent the country on the universal level.
Musumba Janat, an official from Miss Uganda Foundation, said "most of the girls in the contest use slang and social media English".
She reiterated that teaching the contestants "correct English and preparing them to compete on the Miss World level" has been a challenge.
