This bone-chilling calamity occurred yesterday at around 7.30pm, at Nakasozi Police Post in Kiboga District.
According to Wamala Region Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala, the deceased are Corporal Francis Nsubuga, the Officer in Charge of Nakasozi Police Post and Special Police Constable- SPC Paul Dimba, an officer attached to the same Police Post.
Their deaths, she said, have cast a pall of dread and horror amongst their families, friends and colleagues.
The forensics based on crime scene investigations indicate that the officers were attacked while they were seated at the Nakasozi Police Post by a gang of four armed men who were garbed in civilian dress.
Their dress code alone presupposes the audacity of a premeditated attack on the police, and also serves as a convenient disguise which would not arouse any suspicion as to the harm they could cause.
According to the police, this is the second attack of this kind within a duration of nine days. The pattern or modus operandi is the same: a group of armed thugs dressed in mufti gunning down police officers and then harvesting their weaponry.
Police are acting quickly to find out who is behind these offences, described as capital in nature, and have thus dispatched teams from the Flying Squad Unit.
This Unit is teaming up with the territorial police to ensure the suspects are identified and brought to justice.
Again, in order to uncover the motives of the suspects when identified, is uppermost on the police’s immediate agenda.
According to a statement from the police, they “shall release more details as soon as they are availed.”
As chilling as this case is, it cannot yet be evidentially linked to wider conspiracy concerning or involving terrorists.
