Teddy Naluswa talks Susan Makula, lessons from 29-year-marriage with Bugingo
In interviews, she has shared some details about how they met and how the relationship ended.
While appearing on Sanyuka T.V., she said that at the end of their marriage, she learnt that women love their husbands a lot and it blinds them from their weaknesses.
She also learnt that women put a lot of trust in men. To avoid this, she said, a woman should strive for financial independence.
For instance, she said at the time of splitting, their daughter Winnie Treasure Bugingo, who in February graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering from the U.K. -- wanted "about Shs140 million" a year for her studies.
Naluswa was the one to raise the money.
However, she said, the marriage came with some benefits, namely: raising "smart kids" together and getting born-again.
She said she doesn't regret anything from her marriage to Bugingo.
Bugingo sired three daughters (Doreen, Winnie and Jennifer) and a son (Isaac) with Naluswa. They built their residential home in Kitende.
The separation was acrimonious and it ended up in court after Bugingo accused Naluswa of conniving with their daughter to try to steal his land. Bugingo recently said that he hadn't talked to his children in seven years but he's ready to meet them again.
Teddy Naluswa, who had her wedding ring in the interview two years ago, said she was still Bugingo's wife and that she had forgiven him.
She also said she would never remarry. That she would focus her energy on inspiring women and spreading the word of God.
While appearing on N.B.S. T.V., Teddy Naluswa said she was born in Mengo Hospital and raised in Bwaise.
She studied up to S.4. and joined Nursery Teaching because her mother couldn't raise A-level school fees. She was the only child of her mother.
She met Bugingo when she was joining nursery teaching. She was 17.
They were initially friends and both weren't born again yet.
When their firstborn was 5 months, a relative invited them to watch a play titled Heaven's Gates on December 24, 1992 at Kampala Pentecostal Church, now Watoto Church.
Bugingo got hooked and became born again. Teddy didn't.
2 years later, in 1994, she went back and rewatched it and became born again.
She said she treated their divorce as "a betrayal".
Susan Makula’s relationship with Pastor Bugingo became public in July 2019.
Teddy Naluswa said at some point the gossip about what happened almost forced her to leave the country for the U.K.
She said she understood that Susan Makula wasn't operating with a "normal" mind, so she forgave her and that she "needs to be prayed for."
She said she knew Makula before as an employee of Salt Media, which is owned by Pastor Bugingo.
Teddy Naluswa is now the head of World of Salvation Ministries International and they pray from Bat Valley Theatre in Kampala.
