Swarm Summit 2023: Tech experts, entrepreneurs to discuss the future of work tomorrow
Technology experts and entrepreneurs will tomorrow, Friday, gather for the Swarm Summit 2023 to discuss the future of work.
The event, which will start at 8am, will be held at Hive Colab, which is located on Plot 90 Kanjokya Street in Kampala.
The tech summit, which is held annually, will this year look into how emerging innovations will transform the workforce.
Well-curated topics have been lined up to help direct discussions.
The keynote address, which will be delivered by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) acting Executive Director Eng. Irene Kagwa Sewankambo, will break down how the technology and entrepreneurial ecosystem has changed over the past 10 years.
Other topics include Incubating the Future Workforce: How incubation programs can prepare Ugandans for the jobs of tomorrow; Sustainable Agriculture: How emerging technologies are paving the way for a more efficient, eco-friendly agricultural industry.
Another panel will look at Human-AI Partnership: How AI is augmenting, not replacing human labour; Digital Payments: how cashless transactions are transforming trade and the workplace.
The last panel will break down this topic: With African venture funding at record highs, what trends should Ugandan companies take advantage of in funding?
According to Disrupt-africa.com, African startups raised more than $3 billion in 2022. It was the first time funding went beyond $3bn.
In all, 633 startups raised a combined US$3,333,071,000 in 2022.
The number of funded startups increased by 12.2 percent to 564 in 2021, while the total secured funding jumped 55.1 percent to US$2,148,517,500 in 2021.
Most of this funding went to Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and Kenya.
The SWARM Summit convenes great thinkers, innovators, practitioners and policymakers of technology who are transforming Uganda’s digital space.
This year it is sponsored by the International Trade Centre, Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME), National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) and Hive Colab.
The sponsors started an initiative called the Youth Startup Academy Uganda (YSAU) and it will be holding its first graduation of entrepreneurs who have gone through the academy.
