Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General - on Libya

The Secretary-Generalwelcomes the 27 February meetingin the United Arab Emirates,convenedby his Special Representative for Libya,GhassanSalamé,between thePrime Minister of Libya andPresident of the PresidencyCouncilof the Government of National Accord,FaiezSerraj,and the Commander of the Libyan National Army, KhalifaHaftar.

The Secretary-Generalcommendsbothparties on the progress made, in particular the agreement on the need to end the transitional stages in Libya throughtheholdingofgeneral elections, and also the commitment to maintain stability in the country and unify its institutions. TheSecretary-Generalhopes further progress can be achievedon the basis of what has alreadybeen agreed upon,withthe support of the international community.
