The 36-year-old appeared before the court martial in Gulu on Thursday over charges of treason, possession of firearms and malicious damage to president's car.
He has been in detention at a military facility since August 13th following his arrest in the northern Ugandan town of Arua -- same day his driver was shot dead.
Set free and rearrested
The military court on Thursday set free Bobi Wine after terminating the court proceedings against him. The visibly pained legislator was rearrested by police and taken to Gulu Magistrate Court to be charged afresh.
Fresh Charges.
The tortured Kyadondo East MP is likely to be charged with terrorism and manslaughter at the Gulu Magistrates court.
One of his lawyers says "once the charges are withdrawn, he is a free man". he adds that "If the police want him, they should summon him. It is improper for the court Martial to hand him over to the police".
"What we object to is that this General Court Martial be used as a forum for arresting a civilian. The moment charges are withdrawn against a person, he becomes free. A court is not an instrument of arresting for the police," Medard Segona told reporters.
No Jurisdiction
The Gulu Chief Magistrate's Court has no jurisdiction treason cases. Charges will be read to him and remanded to civil prison in Gulu.
