Ssemujju accuses Amuriat, Mafabi of being NRM moles
The meeting follows allegations by the party’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, that both Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the party’s president, and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the party’s secretary general, are moles sent by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with the aim of weakening the party during the on-going internal elections.
"I cannot be party to a process that is going to install a 'Mao-like’ leadership whose main objective is to carry the party to Museveni," the Kira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Ssemujju Nganda, said.
The meeting, which was convened by Ssemujju, was opposed by Mafabi, who said that it was illegal in the first place.
"There were a lot of individuals that didn't want this meeting to happen, so I'm glad it did. I want to thank all of you who came a long way to be here," Ssemujju said.
He added: "You chose me to speak on behalf of FDC, and I've been doing that for the past eight years. Additionally, I was chosen to lead the FDC group in Parliament by NEC members and the residents of Kira Municipality, who voted me to represent them in Parliament."
Nandala and Oboi are accused of neglecting to carry out important party decisions that were approved by the members of the National Executive Council (NEC).
Ssemujju said that they have a responsibility to ensure that every party member returns, noting that many of them are stranded in their current location.
He pointed out that political parties can revitalise themselves through internal elections. He added that internal elections are being badly handled out of selfishness.
"The battle to prevent Museveni from establishing himself as President for life in 2003–2004 was crucial in the development of the FDC. Museveni's family has taken over our country. We are currently being robbed in plain sight. They pose a greater threat than those who target mobile money machines," he said.
She added: "Museveni and his wife receive Sh1.1 billion every day, yet their children have grown up and left the State House. Every hour, we spend Sh47.7 million on Museveni. Every minute, we spend Sh800,000 on Museveni and his wife."
