Shabana FC’s X account receives backlash after cryptic tweet alluding to the team’s five-match ban.
Shabana FC supporters have reacted furiously to a cryptic message from the team’s X account after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) made its ruling to hand the FKF Premier League side a five-match ban during their home games.
Shabana who played a 2-2 draw on Sunday against Ulinzi were subject to a review after the chaos that ensued amongst their supporters following a late equalizer by Ulinzi’s Glen Wafula.
The ruling made by FKF to hand Shabana a five-match ban without supporter prompted the team’s X account admin to share a cryptic message that angered fans.
A tweet of three crying emojis unaccompanied by nothing else angered a section of the fanbase with some user questioning the “taste” of the post.
“What kind of post is this from a professional football club's admin?” One X user is quoted asking in a comment.
“Be serious admin. This is an official page for shabana football club,” another user is quoted sounding warning to the account’s admin.
The furious fans unleashed their fury on the team’s X account, calling into question the intent of the cryptic message shared by the admin.
The Gusii team have additionally been penalized with bearing the cost of the damaged seats at Ulinzi Sports Complex while also providing compensation for the medical expenses incurred by two injured officers in the chaos that ensued.
Shabana who are poised for a return to their historic home ground in Gusii will rue missed opportunity to capitalize on strong home support when they take on Posta Rangers and in their successive four home games after that.
The Gusii side places 10th on the log with two points having drawn two games, scoring three goals and conceding the same amount.
