Sebatta said in an interview with BBS Tv this week, that he had accumulated the debt through medical bills and some setbacks in his music career.

I'm now depending on other people. I have also been sickly. I had to go to Nairobi and to the US for treatment,” he said.

The “Nalwewuba” singer first confirmed back in 2021 that he was battling prostate cancer and diabetes.

He says he also took a big financial hit when his truck-load of music equipment was stolen by robbers when it had stopped for refueling.

Over the past few years, the legendary artist has made appeals to well wishers to come to his rescue; but he says, most of the time he has been ridiculed and called a beggar.

Deal gone south

Meanwhile, Sebatta revealed in the interview that a music copyright deal he had recently stuck with the UgaTunes music app, never materialized.

Around 2020 it was reported that Sebatta, together with several other Kadongo Kamu artists had sold their music to the UgaTunes app, which is said to be owned by Gen Salim Saleh.

Some of the other artists who sold their rights to the app included Matia Luyima, Sauda Batenda Nakakawa, Willy Mukaabya, Abdul Mulaasi, Hassan Ndugga and Fred Ssebaale.

Immediately afterwards, UgaTunes started distributing these rights and indeed a number of new-school artists including  Daddy Andrew, Sheebah Karungi and King Saha re-did some of Sebatta’s classics. The new songs however, didn't get any traction.

Sebatta now says ever since, he has not received a single penny from UgaTunes.

UgaTunes hurt me a lot; I was so disappointed,” he said.

“I thought I was going to get some money and pay all the people I owe here and abroad, but they disappointed me,” he said.

For those who wish to support Sebatta, he says, they should reach him on his phone numbers; 0777407020 and 0709688158.
