The plan, officials said, was designed to provide a safety net for families in the event of death or total permanent disability, but also to guarantee a refund of all premiums to those who do not make a claim during the policy period.

The introduction of the Prudent Life Plan by Prudential Uganda comes at a critical time when the country is grappling with a low insurance uptake.

Despite the growing awareness of the importance of insurance, Uganda's insurance penetration remains significantly low compared to global averages. This scenario is attributed to various factors, including limited understanding of insurance products, scepticism about the benefits of insurance, and the perceived lack of tangible returns on insurance investments.

Prudential Uganda's CEO, Mr. Tetteh Ayitevie, emphasized the plan's role in altering the traditional insurance model by offering a tangible solution that caters to the real needs of individuals and families.

"This launch signifies a paradigm shift in financial protection, fortifying individuals against life's uncertainties and providing a unique money-back guarantee for claim-free durations—a tangible solution for real people," Ayitevie stated.

Musa Sebuufu, the Head Actuary at Prudential Uganda, highlighted how the Prudent Life Plan differentiates itself from traditional insurance covers by offering a 100% refund of paid premiums at maturity for those who outlive their policy term.

Furthermore, the plan includes enhanced benefits for accidental death or permanent disability, alongside free annual medical checkups, underscoring Prudential's commitment to changing the narrative around life coverage in Uganda.

The Prudent Life Plan not only addresses the need for financial security in the face of life's uncertainties but also seeks to encourage a higher uptake of insurance products in Uganda by providing a more appealing proposition to potential policyholders,” he said.

By guaranteeing a return on premiums for claim-free periods, Ssebuufu said Prudential Uganda aims to overcome the scepticism associated with insurance investments, presenting insurance as a strategic financial decision with tangible benefits.
