Police issue strict guidelines for welcoming Bobi Wine
Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is expected to return to Uganda on Thursday.
Police in Kampala have issued strict security guidelines as hundreds of people prepare to converge at the airport to welcome him from the US tomorrow.
The force's spokesperson told reporters in Kampala that the 36-year-old lawmaker will be escorted straight from the airport to his Magere home.
Emilian Kayima reiterated that there will be no rallies and he will be received only by his family members.
"No member of his family has worked out a mechanism for these intended processions and assemblies as provided for in the law," Authorities said.
Police added that they will "further ensure law and order for all road users. There shall be no unlawful rallies, processions and assemblies. Any activity that entails a public gathering must be in conformity with the provisions of Public Order Management Act (POMA)"
Wine has been in the US since last month receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained during his brutal arrest in the northern town of Arua.
He also alleged that he was tortured by Ugandan soldiers during the two weeks he spent in detention at a military facility.
The legislator had time to address foreign media in the US where, together with his lawyer Robert Amsterdam, called on the US government to suspend military funding to Uganda.
