Over 10 dead in nasty road accident along Nairobi-Nakuru highway

Over 10 people have been reported dead on Friday after a grisly road accident at Kikopey, Gilgil, along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The morning incident occurred after a trailer was claimed to have rammed into 6 cars along the road which left victims trapped in wreckage.

Out of the six, a 2NK shuttle matatu had been badly dismantled.

Reports had indicated that the trailer had been driving downhill before it lost control and hit the vehicles.

Gilgil Police boss Emmanuel Opuru confirmed that emergency teams had arrived at the scene.

Kikopey tragedy

In February 2018, five people lost their lives along the Kikopey Trading centre after a collision of a truck and several vehicles which included a North Rift shuttle matatu.

Two people died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at St Mary’s Mission Hospital, Gilgil.

The matatu had been travelling from Eldoret heading to Nairobi when the tragedy struck.
