He secured the MP seat for Nakasongola County on the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

His victory came on the third try, having lost in the last two elections.

On election day, on January 15, Kyeyne says, he was severely beaten and hospitalised after he was attacked by armed men, on his way to rescue his polling agents that had been rounded up.

While fellow journalists and fans celebrated his triumph, there were questions on what will happen to his beloved segment on NTV

However, Mrs Flavia Tumusiime, the Head of Broadcasting at Nation Media Group revealed that they were still in talks with Mr Kyeyune

“We are still in talks with Onarebo,” she quipped in reply to one  of the users on X”

Kyeyune is the third NTV journalist to join parliament in the last five years, following victories by Agnes Nandutu who became the Bududa Woman MP, and Joel Ssenyonyi who was elected to represent the people of Nakawa West.

Both Nandutu and Ssenyonyi went on to become Junior Minister for Karamoja Affairs and Leader of Opposition in Parliament respectively.
