Ministry of Health confirms seven cases of Omicron COVID-19 Variant in Uganda

Many Ugandans have been impatiently waiting for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fully open up the economy in January but looks like the new cases of omicron puts this excitement hanging in balance.

According to the World Health Organization, omicron is a threat because it comes with higher risks of severe consequences than corona virus according to early evidence.

Omicron was first identified in Botswana and South Africa. The new cases of the omicron were detected from samples taken from travellers arriving in the country through Entebbe International airport.
Several countries have imposed travel bans with other restrictions on travellers from countries like South Africa, Malawi, Lesotho and many more.
Some European countries from the European union, USA, Canada and United Kingdom have also imposed travel bans and restrictions from people travelling from countries where the virus has been detected.
