In his interview, Katamba said he was tired of living in a life of denial and pretense and wanted to let it out to the public so he could live a good life without stress and depression. Ever since he publicly announced, he embarked on a journey of advocating and inspiring the young generation about living positively with HIV as well as organizing campaigns and seminars that inform youth about the dangers of HIV and how they can protect themselves against the deadly virus.
At various occasions organized by different stakeholders in the fight against HIV and the stigma that comes with it, Mc Kats has always been listed as one of the keynote speakers and influencers. According to Mc Kats, the number one sign that proved he was HIV positive was contracting TB. Initially, he brushed it off and always survived on syrups thinking he was treating TB until when he was advised by his mother to go for a medical checkup, which turned out positive. Like any other person in the celebrity world, Katamba didn’t believe it at first because he thought he was a star and too cool to get the virus and it was after several checkups that all turned out positive that he admitted and started on his medication.
Although Kats has been living with the virus for quite some time, it has not stopped him from doing greater things and chasing his dreams. He also adds that none of his children or their mothers contracted the virus and they are also safe.
During this year’s celebration of World AIDS Day, Mc Kats hosted his King of the Mic virtual event on Saturday to celebrate and motivate the lives of people living with HIV. During the press conference, Kats said “I hope I inspire someone out there to live life and work on their dreams. Taking your meds is the way to go. I pray the awareness goes on beyond just the concert.”
The event was live on NBS and live on social media platforms featuring different artists like Lydia Bruno K, Dj Roja, DVJ Mercy and many more.
Uganda joined the celebrations of World AIDS Day last weekend at the Kololo Independence Grounds with the rest of the world and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the Chief Guest. This year’s theme was “End Inequalities and End Pandemics”, with a focus on reaching people left behind. According to the World Health Organization together with its partners, they are highlighting the growing inequalities in access to essential HIV services.
