Man posing as a State House official arrested for defrauding Ugandans
Authorities have arrested a man who has been posing as a State House official.
State House on Monday said Alex Kiyingi has been defrauding unsuspecting Ugandans of money.
The presidential press secretary shared a broadcast message warning the public from dealing with Kiyingi.
Lindah Nabusayi said: "Kiyingi is not an employee of State House and cannot, therefore, purport to act for or on behalf of State House. Uganda Be Woke."
Local media reports that the suspect tried to extort money from some beneficiaries of President Kaguta Museveni's SACCO projects.
"Kiyingi reportedly introduced himself to these groups as a State House staff member, and asked them to pay him money. He was going around the SACCOs, and telling them he was a State House official sent to supervise their work,” Chimp Reports quotes Nabusayi.
"Afterwards he would ask for an allowance. The group members alerted State House and we sent out a group of people who nabbed him and handed him over to police."
