Malawi’s Daliso Chaponda gears for ‘Comedy of Show of the Year’ at Theatre LaBonita

The UK-based Malawian is in Uganda for the second time, having been at the Africa Laughs show back in 2017.

You may remember him for his stellar performance at 2017 Britain's Got Talent where he was the second runner-up; or from your TikTok FYP.

Chaponda will be performing alongside the best of Uganda’s comics led by Patrick Salvado, who is the night’s host, as well as Ehma Napoleon, Daniel Omara, and Dr Hillary Okello. There’s also music performance from Janzi Band and DJ Moustey.

“It's been 6 years since I was last year; I have always wanted to come back but things kept getting in the way,” Chapoda told pressmen at Arcadia Suites.

The Dalisa Chapoda Live in Kampala show is being billed as a “family-friendly, one man’s show,” and the “comedy show of the year.”

“To the Ugandans out there, if you miss this show you will have certainly missed the comedy show of the year,” said Salvador at the press conference.

A long-time friend of Chaponda, Salvado said he was thrilled to invite him back to Kampala, having himself been in Malawi just last year.

“I've been on over 10 stages with him across the world. I have also an opportunity to be invited to his country last year where we did a very beautiful show and I thought I should return the favor,” he said.

Daniel Omara, one of the openers of the night also promised the very best of Uganda’s stand-up.

“I have had a lot of shows this year, but to me, it feels like everything was a build-up to this particular event,” he said.

Tickets for the show are going for Shs. 100k on Flexipay and at the venue. Gates open at 5 p.m.
