At least 25 learners have been confirmed dead in a deadly attack by the DRC-based ADF terrorist group at school in Kasese district.

The attack happened Friday night, authorities have said.

The terrorists reportedly attacked Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, which is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border, burnt down a dormitory and looted a food store.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said by sunrise on Saturday, June 17, 25 bodies had been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. 

Another 8 victims were admitted at the hospital in critical condition.

“A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is ongoing, towards Virunga national park. We do offer our deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed, and offer our prayers and thoughts to those who have been wounded. More details will be availed in due course,” said the police attack.

The attack is akin to one that happened 25 years ago in neighboring Kabarole district when the same ADF terror group Kichwamba Technical Institute set three dormitories on fire, killing 80 students.

The ADF abducted another 100 students and destroyed other property including laboratories and school vehicles
