Deputy President William Ruto and his wife drew the attention of a section of the public after a photo taken during a State House dinner on Thursday night landed on social media.
The banquet hosted by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta to celebrate the visit of UK Prime Minister Theresa May saw high-profile individuals come together.
One photo capturing President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret, PM May, DP Ruto and Mrs. Rachel Ruto toasting during the celebration was of interest to many.
In the picture President Kenyatta, his wife and PM May are seen holding glasses of champagne.
However, hawk-eyed Kenyans noticed that Mr. Ruto and his wife were not indulging in the alcoholic drink but toasted with their glasses of juice.
Ruto is a teetotaler who has been involved in leading various religious bodies. He was the chairman of the University Christian Union choir and later patron of the Christian Union at a high school he taught briefly.
Nonetheless his boss, President Kenyatta is known to love his bottle.
