Geoffrey Oryema to be cremated in a private ceremony

Internationally recognised Ugandan musician Geoffrey Oryema died on Friday, June 22, in France where has been living since the age of 23.

A private religious ceremony for the legendary musician is expected to be held today, Saturday, in Plomeur (Finistère), France, where he has been living; a source told AFP.

The funeral ceremony will be followed by cremation and his ashes will be flown to northern Uganda and dispersed in Anaka, a land of his ancestors where the inspiration of his song 'Land of Anaka' was drawn from.

Cremation is carried out at a temperature ranging between 1400 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.

The heat reduces the body to its basic elements ashes and dried bone fragments.
