Ugandas former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura has been granted bail by the countrys military court.
He appeared in court for the first time last week after two months in detention following his arrest from his country home in Lyantonde district.
On August 24th, the military court charged him with 3 counts of repatriation of Rwandan dissidents, illegally issuing firearms to civilian groups and failing to protect military material.
The court requested his lawyers to formally apply for bail.
Bail grounds
His lawyers submitted to the court that their client deserves bail because he has never been indicted in any courts on law.
The lawyers also submitted that Kayihura's health condition is worrying and needs specialised medical treatment abroad.
Maj Gen James Mugira, Maj Gen Sam Kavuma and Rosemary Tumusiime Bikaaku were presented as his sureties
Bail conditions
The 62-year-old has been restricted to stay within Kampala and Wakiso.
Kayihura has to report to court every first Monday of the month.
The former IGP has also been restricted from travelling abroad without court permission and the army council.
