During the event, Mao promised to lobby Parliament for the EC to get powers that would enable the commission to regulate and oversee all political parties.

Political parties may not agree with certain decisions made by the EC, but they need to allow the commission to regulate them because the Constitution provides for avenues to use incase of dissatisfaction,” he said.

He added: “This is a better home that will strengthen the EC’s mandate to facilitate democratic governance and overall political stability in the country.”

On December 16, 2022, the EC offices were relocated from Plot 55 on Jinja road to its current location, formerly the head offices of the National Housing and Construction Company.

Katumba Wamala, the works and transport minister, thanked National Housing and other Government agencies for working together with the EC to ensure a smooth relocation of the commission’s offices.

He said they asked National Housing to construct EC headquarters in Lweza-Lubowa, on the Entebbe-Kampala Highway.

National Housing’s Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Kaijjuka, said the new head offices will be ready by 2026 for the next Presidential elections.

The EC chairperson, James Byabakama, called on all stakeholders to support the on-going efforts to have new head offices for the commission. He said the b=new offices will improve the commission’s work.
