Electoral Commission (EC) has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate claims made by President Kaguta Museveni that National Voters Registry was inflated in Arua, Bugiri and Jinja elections.
The move comes days after the 73-year-old president threatened to sack the electoral body chiefs for mismanaging the election.
Museveni, Uganda's president since 1986, said on Monday that the commission is "full of rotten people and I' going to get rid of them".
Blame
The ruling government lost elections in Jinja, Bugiri and Arua to opposition candidates who were fully backed by Bobi Wine and other prominent political figures.
Museveni blames the electoral body for importing ghost voters into the National Voters' Registry.
Noted with concern
EC's chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama says he has "noted concerns raised by some stakeholders" about the "integrity of the National Voters' Registry used in recent parliamentary by-elections".
Part of the statement issued on Tuesday reads: “In light of the current concerns about integrity of the voters’ register, the commission is reviewing the reports on the by-elections and has appointed a technical committee to investigate all claims related to the integrity of the register with a view of establishing the facts of the claims, and be able to apply the necessary remedial measures where necessary in future elections”.
