"It is anticipated that the promotions will boost employee morale and improve the delivery of prosecution services. These advancements will also make it possible to hire nearly 70 State Solicitors to fill the ODPP's long-standing personnel deficit and strengthen the administration of justice."

Those promoted include Marion Ben Bella, Nambozo Irene Wenwa, Nandawula Lillian, Kyomugisha Barbra, Khaukha James, Twesiime Maureen, Kesubi Calorine, and Nakigozi Harriet.

Others include: Wamibu Anthony, Kalya Christine, Mpumwire Caroline, Engena George, Wadama Innocent, Amumpire Joanitah, Tabaro Carolyne Ahereza, Tandihwantimba Anna, Magala Clare Pauline, Kurungyishuri Anthony Pro, Aleto Innocent, and Semu Joel.

Lady Justice Frances Abodo, the director of public prosecutions, expressed the need for more prosecutors in order to match the growing number of judicial officers and ensure that justice is administered properly.

A few weeks ago, the government gave 40 double cabins and two station waggons to prosecutors in difficult-to-reach places as a way to improve their working conditions. This was done with the hope that it would ease their transport to those places.

The promotion also coincides with several demands from the judiciary to have more staff (judges), something the government of Uganda has repeatedly promised to do.
