Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi has told off Members of the County Assembly urging them not to show off their frustration to Kenyans by discussing her in the Assembly.
Speaking in Malindi, Elachi was responding to MCAs who are mulling a bid to impeach her over what they deem as misconduct in the office.
“I know Members are frustrated, they have loans, they have not received their salaries but in that frustration, we cannot push it that way. We have issues of fuel to deal with and if we mix our welfare with what is happening in the country Kenyans will get even more confused,” said Elachi.
Impeachment Motion
The speaker however, pleaded to the MCAs to look at the mood of the country before they move on with the impeachment motion.
“I think it is always good to look at the mood of the country and the mood right now is that the country does not have resources.”
The MCAs are expected to hold a special sitting on Thursday on the back of the plot to impeach her. A number of them allied to Jubilee party and NASA on Wednesday said that internal wrangles in the Assembly and the executive were undermining service delivery.
They were also unhappy with Elachi's move to invite the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate corruption at the Assembly.
