It was understandable given his background in the National Intelligence Service where he rose through the ranks from an analyst to the Deputy Director in charge of Economic Crimes at the time of his exit in March.

Unknown to many Kenyans, Haji is also an experienced media manager having managed a popular Mombasa-based radio station for about ten years.

Radio Salaam was founded in 2006 as an Islamic radio station.

It was co-owned by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and his sons - Noordin and Abdul.

Abdul gained national prominence during the Westgate attack where he bravely went in the line of fire to rescue innocent victims of the Al Shabaab terrorists.

Among prominent journalists who worked at Radio Salaam include veteran investigate journalist Mohamed Ali – currently the MP for Nyali constituency.

The station was also known for its anti-radicalism policy and often fell target to radical preachers such as Sheikh Aboud Rogo who often warned his audience against listening to any Imam invited as a guest at Radio Salaam.

At some point, Noordin was accused of using the station for his intelligence work after one of his radio presenters, Habib Suleiman Njoroge, was arrested on terrorism related charges.

Njoroge’s family claimed that it was Noordin who had “lured” the radio presenter to Radio Salaam offices on the night of his arrest.

The Hajis sold the radio station in 2016.
