Court issues timelines in the case about Justice Amoko’s burial
Some of Amoko's family members, including her biological children, are requesting a court order to have her buried in Nebbi, as she preferred, rather than Adjumani, as her husband had requested in the official burial programme.
Annet Yossa, Komakech Emmanuel, Amoni Jackie, Picho Godfrey (brother), and Christine Onyok (sister) are the applicants in this case against Ambassador Idule Amoko (spouse) and the attorney (Respondents).
The lawyers of the petitioners, Stanley Okecho and Pius Katumba Busobozi, reached an understanding in court on Thursday this week without the participation of the lawyers of the respondents.
The application must be delivered to the respondents by 10:00 a.m. on June 23, 2023, and they must submit their individual responses by 12:30 p.m. that day. Oral testimony will then be used to advance the case.
Additionally, it was decided that the case would be heard in court on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 3.30 p.m.
Controversy
The controversy started last week when some of Justice Amoko's family members informed the mourners that Justice Amoko had prepared an oral will instructing them to bury her in Nebbi, near where his father was laid to rest, before she passed away at Nakasero Hospital.
The deceased's brother Godfrey Picho, sister Christine Onyok Oling, and niece Nancy Okwong all testified in favour of this.
Some of these individuals who had been given instructions by the deceased did not attend the meeting convened at the President's office to prepare for her burial, but it was decided that she would be buried in the Adjumani District, and this was made very apparent on the burial programme.
