Comedian Alex Muhangi rallies Ugandans for ‘Play for Charity’ tournament
Comedy Store Uganda CEO, Alex Muhangi, has launched a high-stakes charity football initiative hoped to foster a community spirit and support the vulnerable
Scheduled for this Sunday, 11 January 2026, the "Play for Charity with Alex Muhangi" tournament is set to take place at the KCCA Phillip Omondi Stadium, bringing together sport and philanthropy in a vibrant start to the new year.
The tournament will see 16 teams face off in a series of matches from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
While the event is meant to extend a helping hand to two designated charity homes, there are also rewards for the top performers on the pitch.
In a statement, Muhangi revealed that the winning team will walk away with a cash prize of 2 million Shillings, while the runners-up are set to receive 1 million Shillings.
This competitive element is designed to draw a large crowd, ensuring maximum visibility for the charitable drive that underpins the entire event.
Meanwhile, Muhangi is also leading a massive donation drive, urging all Ugandans to contribute whatever they can to assist those in need.
Speaking ahead of the event, the comedy star said even small acts of kindness can transform lives. "I am calling all Ugandans! Let's come together to make a difference," Muhangi stated.
"Please bring any gently used or new shoes, plates, cups, household items, or food staples like rice, sugar, and posho. We will ensure they are distributed to those who need them most."
For those looking to participate or register their teams, the organizers can be reached via the official registration line at 0772977979.
As the KCCA Phillip Omondi Stadium prepares to host this synchronized national effort, the message remains clear: through unity and shared responsibility, the community can make a lasting positive impact in 2026.
