Coca-Cola launches EPL campaign with monthly cash prizes for Ugandan football fans
Football fans gathered at Millennium Park, Lugogo, on Friday for Coca-Cola’s Premier League watch party as the beverage company launched its new campaign to bring English football experiences closer to Ugandans.
The event, held as part of Coca-Cola’s partnership with the English Premier League, marked the start of the new football season with fans watching Arsenal’s opening fixture against Coventry City on a big screen.
The watch party combined football, entertainment and fan experiences, featuring performances from Ugandan artistes, dance groups, games, quizzes and food.
Barry Otieno, Senior Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda (CCBU), said the partnership would create more opportunities for Ugandan fans to engage with the Premier League.
“The English Premier League officially starts today, and this is a special day for Uganda because for the first time, Coca-Cola has partnered with EPL to bring the football experience closer to all football fans in Uganda,” Otieno said.
He said Coca-Cola identified football as a key passion point among Ugandans and plans to organise more experiences throughout the season.
“We are going to be bringing the great football experiences close to Ugandans. Ugandans love football and we have identified it as a passion point we can tap into,” he said.
“For this season that starts today, we are watching the Arsenal game together this evening. This is just a start of the great experience we shall bring to football fans in Uganda,” he said.
Besides watch parties, Coca-Cola announced opportunities for fans to win prizes through a content creation challenge.
The campaign invites consumers to share how they enjoy football moments or meals with Coca-Cola on social media.
Otieno said fans can participate by purchasing a Coca-Cola product, scanning the QR code on the package and registering for the challenge.
“When you take great videos and post on your socials, encourage your friends to interact with your content. The more viewership you get, the more money you unlock,” he said.
The challenge will offer up to Shs1 million in monthly prizes to participants.
Coca-Cola’s partnership with the Premier League is expected to give Ugandan fans more football-related experiences through activations, competitions and fan engagement activities throughout the season.
