Clever J returns from Dubai with 12-year-old hitherto unknown daughter
The singer, real names, Gerald Muwonge, was visibly still perplexed this week as he recounted how a woman he dated years ago, dumped the news on him during his recent music tour in the UAE.
“A woman came out of nowhere during my tour in Dubai and told me she had my child,” the singer recounted in a televised interview on Wednesday.
“She said she had been looking for me all this time.”
The girl is now in Primary Seven. The singer said in the interview that he had no doubt that she was his own blood, noting; “She looks exactly like my son Jeremiah.”
According to the Binyuma Bitya Singer, he sired the girl around 2010 when he was in Dubai for a music show. At the time, his song Manzi wa Nani was a massive hit.
However, he says, he never realized that he “left behind some seeds which sprouted.”
Asked if he was concerned about this unexpected addition to his family, Clever J said he was not very worried because he has always loved to help and take care of other people.
“If I can help someone I’ve met on the road, why would I hesitate to take my own child home and look after them?” he said.
Until his comeback concert dubbed “Eddogo lyafuluka’ in early August, Clever’s music career had taken a decade-long dip, causing him a great deal of strain.
Amid the financial struggles, his wife Sharon Apolot left their home in Wakiso saying their marriage had become unbearable.
She accused the singer of overdrinking, using drugs, and sleeping around with other women.
Apolot also accused Clever J of refusing to pay school fees for their two children.
But in yesterday’s interview, he said he and his family were now settled and living happily.
