Child injected with HIV contaminated needle to get UGX10m as compensation from hospital
A hospital in Kampala will compensate UGX10m to child who was injected with a needle contaminated with HIV in 2014.
The hospital will pay the money in instalments of UGX1m per month until full payment, according to New Vision.
"The first defendant shall pay UGX10m to the plaintiff without prejudice to its good defence to the claim and in no way admits any negligence of liability."
The child was not infected with HIV.
Negligence
In 2014, a nurse who was attached to Victoria Medical Center Limited was jailed to three years for injecting the 2-year old baby with a needle contaminated with HIV blood.
Rosemary Namubiru was sentenced by then Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe for negligence.
Namubiru told the court that her action was not intentional.
"I accidentally hurt my finger but I had no intention of passing the virus to the boy."
