CAA bans mobile phones use at Entebbe Airport
Part of the statement released by Emmanuel Barungi who is the general manager for the CAA reads “It has been noted with great concern that the use of personal mobile phones and other devices by Airport staff while on duty has continued unabated despite consequent security and safety concerns.,”
Agencies such as ENHAS, DAS, Airline station managers, principal immigration officers, as well as cleaning companies have staff that have been affected mostly.
With immediate effect, no staff of the listed agencies will be granted permission to carry their mobile phones at their work stations, and those found using them illegally will face disciplinary actions.
It should be noted that such staff have been interfering with travelers' privacy by taking pictures and sharing them on social media, an action that breaches privacy and may pose threat to travellers.
During the presidential campaigns earlier this year, pictures of former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s children circulated all over social media while they were leaving the country ahead of the elections, and with this act, at least four staffs from a passenger handling company were fired.
Authorities say this had consequently become a habit which would later bring on
This, according to authorities, had become a common habit which would raise momentous reactions against CAA after a number of travellers raised privacy concerns at Entebbe airport.
However, this action still raised mixed reactions from the public, travellers and workers. Some people urged that this action infringes on the workers’ rights.
