Bobi Wine to return to Uganda on Thursday
The new face of Ugandas opposition Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is expected to return to Uganda on Thursday.
The musician-turned-politician announced that he will be returning from the US where he has been receiving treatment since late August for the injuries he sustained when he was allegedly tortured by Ugandan soldiers while in detention.
"I'm coming back this Thursday and I encourage Ugandans to continue struggling for a better Uganda and stand confident and always remember that the people we are scared of are very scared of us," he said in the announcement.
The 36-year-old legislator was arrested and allegedly tortured together with other 33 people in the northern town on Arua for pelting stones to the president's motorcade. The group was charged with treason in connection with the incident and later granted bail.
Wine urges his supporters to continue being united and stand together to fight oppression by the government whose leader has ruled Uganda since 1986.
"They don't know how to deal with a united group, they have never seen so many young people speaking with one voice," Bobi Wine said.
Adding: "The more we stand and stay together, the more we project what is good and reject what is bad, it's the more we shall continue representing our county positively".
Meanwhile, Democratic Party President Norbert Mao has also announced that he will lead supporters of Wine to the airport to welcome him from the US.
