He was, however, later permitted in but prohibited from speaking to the media.

Biriggwa said such circumstances were terrible and that he would seek legal remedy after he 'escaped' from Najjanankumbi, where he had supposedly been detained against his will for hours.

"With the help of others, I was able to free myself. Shame on those who orchestrated this kidnapping. As soon as I talk to my lawyers, I'm going to file a lawsuit," Biriggwa told the media.

The party's embattled national chairperson also urged FDC members not to vote in the grassroot elections, which begin on Friday, July 21, 2023, saying it’s the right thing to do today.

According to Biriggwa, the elections should be postponed until the delegates' meeting is held and the developing schism is addressed.

"I implore you all to refrain from voting because it is not the right thing to do at this time. Let's wait until the delegates' conference next Friday, when the leaders will decide how to proceed," Biriggwa remarked.

The village and parish elections will take place between Friday, July 21, and Sunday, July 23, 2021, according to the party's electoral chief, Boniface Toterebuka.

Sub-county or division elections will be held on July 24th and 25th, followed by constituency elections on July 31st and August 1st.

District leaders' meetings are scheduled for August 3rd through 6th.
