Hoima DPC Jackson Bogere revealed yesterday, Sunday August 27 that the guards were being held at Hoima Central Police Station as the investigations into the matter carry on.

Minister Mayanja traveled to Hoima last week to intervene in two separate land eviction cases, one involving a local businessman Fred Mugamba, and another involving former Deputy Prime Minister Henry Muganwa Kajura.

On arriving at the land being contested between Mugamba and scores of families, the private security guards who were hired by the tycoon to protect the land went on the offensive, firing five shots to scare off the minister and his team.

The Minister’s security responded with fire forcing the guards to flee into the bushes.

The Hoima Deputy RDC Michael Kyakashari condemned the incident, describing it as “an embarrassment to the district that could not be ignored.

Minister Mayanja however, was unfazed by the incident and carried on with his tour. While addressing the residents, he ordered the police to arrest the errant security guards.

He also directed police and the RDC to arrest businessman Mugamba and to release all 25 residents who were arrested by the tycoon during the land fights.

The residents had informed the claim that Mr Mugamba has been keeping them away from his land and deployed the guards to destroy their crop gardens and homes.
