The tourney kicked off at Ecole International French School in Kampala, and attracted teams hailing from various regions, including Kampala, Gulu, Soroti, Kabale, and Kamuli.

This event is made possible through the sponsorship of Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) in collaboration with Blind Football Uganda.

The championship, a part of the celebrations marking World Sight Day and International White Cane and Safety Day, is aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities, with a particular focus on those who are visually impaired.

Pearl Nimusiima, the CCBU Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability Director, expressed the company's enthusiasm for contributing to an initiative that fosters confidence among young people.

She emphasized that the Blind Football Uganda Championship serves as a platform for the entire nation to unite in support of those in need of assistance in transforming their lives.

Nimusiima stated, "We have been challenged and feel proud that we chose to support this football championship."

In the past year, CCBU's commitment to people with disabilities has seen them train individuals with hearing impairments to enhance their business skills, educate women with disabilities in the production of sanitary towels for income generation, and empower women with disabilities in Mukono and Buikwe to create briquettes.

Jagwe Muzafaru, the Founder of Blind Football Uganda, commended CCBU for embracing an idea that not only promotes the psychosocial well-being of visually impaired individuals through sports but also fosters an environment conducive to self-employment, sustainable enterprise development, and networking.

He called on other organizations and individuals to support this growing sport by sponsoring essential equipment such as special balls with rattles, goggles, and eye patches, which are vital during the game.

Muzafaru expressed his gratitude by saying, "As we celebrate International White Cane Safety Day, we want to thank CCBU for celebrating our achievements and financing our aspirations with the view of elevating us into empowered and independent individuals. We want to thank CCBU for enabling us to create a platform where we have showcased our potential, not only in football, but in other life spheres such as art, fashion, entertainment, and so many others."

Blind Football Uganda, as a disabled sports organization, is dedicated to governing, promoting, and developing blind football in Uganda. The organization is affiliated with the Uganda Paralympic Committee and is a member of the National Council of Sports.
