UPDF announces new recruitment exercise

The Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) announced it will be conducting another round of recruitment, this time focusing on those who completed Senior Six with science subjects.

"The UPDF is hereby announcing further recruitment into the UPDF in addition to the just-ended recruitment of S.4 leavers," said Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence Public Information, adding that they are focusing on the age limit of 18-28 years.

The categories to be recruited are as follows:

  • UACE (S.6) science-based combinations with at least a principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Geography, plus subsidiaries.
  • The combinations being looked at are PCM, PCB, BCM, and MEG.
  • Degrees or diplomas in civil engineering, telephone engineering, automotive engineering, computer engineering, aircraft maintenance engineering, electronic engineering, cyber security, computer forensics, computer science, aerospace, masons, electricians, painters, specialised fabricators, carpenters, heavy engineering equipment operators, and heavy engineering equipment mechanics.

According to Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, applications will be submitted via the UPDF website and will last 14 days, from June 19 to July 3.

From July 4 to July 10, the applications will be scrutinised and the successful ones will be uploaded to the website.

From July 11 to July 14, the names of successful applicants will be posted on the website.

Candidates whose names appear on the website will report to the land forces headquarters in Bombo for screening on July 15.

The screening includes medical and physical fitness tests, which will commence on July 15.

Successful applicants are required to report to Bombo with a national identity card, and letters from LCI and LCII chairpersons, GISO, and DISO.
