Imagine a world without women [Editor's Opinion]

History books will reveal to you that a male-dominated world was one full of wars, uncertainty and death.

When I talk about a “male-dominated world,” I mean a world man controlled everything, and the woman left in the back.

This has since changed.

A world without women would perhaps mean a stagnant human race.

Events usually come with the good and bad. When both world wars happened, people lost lives and the world order changed, some might argue for the best, others for the worst, but that’s a story for another day.

Colonised countries gained their independence in the years that followed.

The most crucial eventuality though was the woman voice coming to the forefront of world affairs in a much more vibrate way.

A world without women would mean having no peace.

Centuries ago when patriarchy was at its peak, men controlled nearly every aspect of life – wealth, governance, the army, religious institutes and food et cetera. The end results? Endless wars that killed nearly half of the populations of the kingdoms or states – whatever you may call it – involved.

Because women have been at the centre of world affairs in the 21st and 20th century societies, the female perspective has since been adopted by most governing leaders across the globe. I believe this has played a crucial role in having less violent conflicts contrary to what happened in the 19th, 18th, 17th centuries and beyond.

A world without women would mean a human race with no empathy.

Women are by nature very emotional people. They are empathetic. They are capable of understanding and sharing feelings of another. I’d say empathy is an emotion that has helped the human race live in harmony.

Because we’re living in a world where the female perspective is playing a crucial role in shaping world affairs, empathy has come at the forefront of many global causes such as the problem of refugees, orphaned children, people affected by natural disasters and epidemics such as earthquakes and HIV/AIDs et cetera. This has in turn led to the formation of non-government organisations coming to the rescue of victims of such incidents.

A world without women would mean having an unfocused men on a mission to self-destruction.

Women in our lives play a crucial role in shaping how we think and sometimes react to situations. As a result, they are able to mold a focused man with a view(s) that is/are for the greater good. These could be our mothers, sisters, daughters, spouses or even a female friend. They are in most cases the unnoticed support systems in our lives.

Let us celebrate the women in our lives this women’s day. That mother, sister, girlfriend/spouse/wife or female friend needs your appreciation as a man.
