In the month of July 2023, the airport received and saw off a total of 185,253 international passengers (93,727 arrivals and 91,526 departures).
That is an average of 5,975 passengers per day, the highest passenger traffic ever recorded in a single month.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) says the international traffic increased by 24,338 passengers from the previous month of June 2023, which had a total of 160,915.
“It is also more than that recorded in the same period of July 2022, which was 151,653 and higher than the 166,980 recorded in July 2019,” said UCAA spokesman Mr Vianne Luggya.
Regarding Cargo, Lyggya says the month of July 2023 recorded 4,198 metric tonnes of cargo and 1,547 metric tonnes of cargo which is a total of 5,745 metric tonnes of cargo.
Entebbe Airport appears to be turning the corner from the devastating Covid pandemic which brought air travel to a halt.
UCAA recently revealed that the airport was operating at about 80% from the pre-Covid time.
Currently, rehabilitation works that have been ongoing at the airport are being finalized.
UCAA Director General Fred Bwamesigire says once these works are complete Entebbe will be at the level of “how an international airport should be,” with bigger space in the arrivals, departure, and immigration areas, a twin road system to the Departures, the waiting lounges among others.
