It should be noted that before her arrest, Nandutu was summoned by the Police Criminal investigations Directorate but the journalist-turned-politician didn’t show up.
Several reports thereafter indicated that she had gone missing and her whereabouts unknown.
Speculation was rife that her and other ministers who benefitted from iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region were in hiding for fear of being arrested.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga during the Police weekly media briefing confirmed that Nandutu did not show up at CID after being summoned.
“She did not show at CID after being summoned. We appeal to all our witnesses to cooperate with us so that we deal with this issue once and for all,” he said.
She later handed herself to Police and was charged with dealing with suspect property contrary to section 21A (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act,2009 (As Amended) before being committed to High Court for trial.
Nandutu who is also the Women Member of Parliament for Bududa district was remanded again on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 after her bail hearing was adjourned to Thursday, 4 May.
Presiding judge Jane Okuo Kajuga said she needed time to go over the bail submissions by defence and state lawyers in “favour” and “against” her release.
“You (defence and state lawyers) have raised a number of issues that court needs to look through before coming up with a ruling. Let me use this afternoon (yesterday) to look through the issues before I can deliver the ruling tomorrow at 11am,” Justice Okuo ruled.
