AMVCA9 best cultural outfits: 8 Ugandan celebrities replacements

The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards started yesterday Thursday, May 18, 2023, with an ‘Opening Night and Cultural Day’ event. The event formally kicked off the series of activities that will come to a climax on Saturday, May 20. We have picked out the best cultural outfits from the 'Opening Night and Cultural Day' event and selected Ugandan celebrities who would have rocked the outfit.

This year's AMVCA has been given three days for all lined-up activities in contrast to last year's AMVCA which had over a week of activities.

Talking to the PUNCH, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, Busola Tejumola, noted that this year’s edition of the AMVCAs is focused on raising the bar when it comes to recognising and rewarding talents in the various aspects of the African film and television industry.

“Last year, we had an eight-day line-up of activities leading to the award night. This year will be no different. We have decided to sustain the momentum by bringing back all the activities. The only difference is that they will all take place within three days," she said.

For the Ugandan audience who didn't have representation at the launch, we have curated a list of celebrities who would have rocked the best outfits. The curation is based on physical appearance as well as the celebrities we think are most likely to pull off an outfit.

Baliruno would have replaced Elozonam in the blue aso-oke agbada and almost no one would have noticed. Perhaps Baliruno would have ditched the monk strap shoes.

Spice Diana could give Liquorose a run for her money in the traditional Benin aso-oke.

Grenade could pull off Yemi's look in the long crimson-red agbada. The fur on his shoulders would make a good chip on the shoulder for Grenade.
